2.8m passengers travelled through Gatwick in its busiest-ever January US routes recorded the highest rate of growth, with New York +51.1% and Boston +31.4% The airport’s thriving long-haul network drove +29.6% cargo growth London Gatwick last month experienced the busiest January in its history, with 2.8 million passengers travelling through – an increase of 1.4% year-on-year, marking the airport’s 59th consecutive month of growth. As thousands of Brits travelled Stateside for a January escape, US routes saw the biggest percentage increase in passenger numbers. Fort Lauderdale was the North American destination with the highest passenger growth rate, up 92.6% on January 2017. New York and Boston also saw significant year-on-year growth – up 51.1% and 31.4% respectively – while the US West Coast proved popular too, with Oakland, San Francisco +76.6% and Los Angeles +38.6%.   see full story

Munich Airport : A380 – Giant bird approaching

The flagship of the Lufthansa fleet On March 25, Lufthansa will put three Airbus A380 aircraft – the world's biggest passenger plane – into operation in Munich to serve three intercontinental routes. In the future the airline plans to station five of the superjumbos at Terminal 2. In the coming summer timetable period, the A380s will fly to Los Angeles, Beijing and Hong Kong. This will increase overall capacity in the long-haul segment and bolster Lufthana's hub operations in Munich. The arrival of the newcomers will also be a big day for Munich Airport, which is now firmly and unquestionably established as one of Europe's major aviation hubs. see full story

Beijing's New Airport Looks Right Out Of A Sci-Fi Movie

The new airport will start test operation in October 2019 Beijing's new international airport, yet to start operations, has already taken over the online world. Pictures of the massive airport have flooded social media with some calling the look of the construction 'incredible' and some saying its design has a 'space age influence'. According to  Xinhua , the new airport will start test operation come October 2019. With Beijing Capital International Airport being over-crowded, the new airport, located 46 km south of downtown Beijing, is expected to take some pressure off it. The construction of the airport began in December 2014 and is being built at an estimated cost of 80 billion yuan (12.3 billion US dollars), reports  CGTN . It is touted to be among the world's largest airports.  see full story
